    TAS Man charged with Grievous Bodily Harm 

    Monday, 23 November 2015 – 3:55 pm.

    A 21-year-old Invermay man has been charged with one count of grievous bodily harm following an alleged assault yesterday afternoon.

    The man will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court later this afternoon.

    TAS Aggravated Burglary and Stealing at Ravenswood 

    Monday, 17 August 2015 – 11:21 am.

    Detectives from Launceston CIB are following a specific line of enquiry following the report of an aggravated burglary and stealing at Toora Court, Ravenswood on Sunday morning.

    It was reported that at about 4am on Sunday 16 August 2015 two masked male men unlawfully entered a dwelling in Toora Court, Ravenswood, and disturbed the 70 year old female occupant.

    One of the offenders has pushed the female to the floor and demanded money. The victim then produced cash, being the takings from her daughters Ravenswood Takeaway business. The man has also taken the keys to her vehicle which was later recovered undamaged in the St Leonards area. Police do not believe this was a random incident.

    TAS Sexual Assault Investigation 

    Thursday, 30 July 2015 – 4:53 pm.

    Launceston CIB is undertaking an investigation into the sexual assault of an elderly woman.

    A man entered the woman’s West Launceston home about 1.40am Wednesday 29 July 2015 and assaulted her.

    The victim is recovering with friends and is being provided with support.

    ”The man is described as of slim build, softly spoken with possibly an olive skin complexion. He was in an agitated state. He was wearing dark coloured clothing with a hooded top,” said Detective Inspector John King.

    ”Anyone who saw a man fitting this description in the area yesterday, or recognises the description, is asked to contact Launceston CIB on 67773911 or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000,” said Det. Insp. King.

    ”It’s timely to remind people to be mindful of home security, even when they are at home.”

    TAS Series of Business burglaries and stolen motor vehicle 

    Wednesday, 13 May 2015 – 11:42 am.

    Overnight three businesses in the greater Launceston area have been targeted by thieves.

    At approximately 1am this morning police were notified of a burglary in progress at the Evandale IGA Supermarket, Russell Street, Evandale.

    It is believed the offenders are a group of men who have forced entry to the premises and stolen a quantity of cigarettes and confectionary items.

    Witnesses have reported seeing a white Toyota Camry fleeing the scene.

    A second report of a burglary in progress at the IGA Supermarket, Brougham Street, West Launceston, was received at approximately 1.40am.

    The cash tills in this premises have been removed and an unsuccessful attempt to open the store ATM has been made.

    The offenders have fled the scene in a white vehicle which has been reversed into the supermarket doors causing extensive damage, in the process of fleeing.

    About an hour later police received reports of a third burglary, at the Southside Supermarket, Hobart Road Youngtown. It is believed the offenders have attempted to use the vehicle to crash through the front glass doors of the premises.

    Entry was not gained however the vehicle has caught fire, completely destroying the vehicle and causing substantial fire damage to the store.

    It is believed that a group of between 3 to 5 men are responsible for these burglaries and they were utilising a vehicle stolen from a Mowbray residence on Monday.

    The previous night three additional business burglaries occurred that are also believed to be linked.

    The Norwood IGA, where a quantity of soft drink was stolen and attempts were made to open a safe; Roadside Products in St Leonards where a quantity of cash and some electronic items were stolen and The Kings Bridge Bar in Paterson St where a safe was entered and a quantity of cash stolen.

    Police urge business owners to refrain from storing cash on premises overnight and bank daily takings whenever possible.

    TAS Aggravated Armed Robbery at Wellington Street 

    Tuesday, 12 May 2015 – 4:49 pm.

    On Monday 11 May 2015, at approximately 3:30pm two men approached the front door of a unit in the upper end of Wellington Street, South Launceston.

    The men forced their way into the unit; wearing balaclavas and armed with an axe and firearm and they demanded that the three occupants hand over property.

    No one was injured in the incident.

    The victims did not know the offenders, and described them as wearing balaclavas, dark hooded tops and jeans. The exposed skin on the wrists of both offenders appeared dark in colour.

    Detectives from Launceston Criminal Investigation Branch are following a specific line of enquiry and would like to speak to witnesses who may have seen the men around the upper end of Wellington Street on Monday afternoon.

    TAS Assault and Firearm Incident in Laycock Street 

    Sunday, 18 January 2015 – 5:49 pm.

    At approximately 11:45am on Saturday 17 January 2015, a disturbance occurred at a residence in Laycock Street, Longford.

    Three males on motorcycles approached the address where an altercation occurred and a male occupant was assaulted.

    A family member of the victim intervened at which point a silver Holden Commodore drove past slowly with the driver allegedly pointing a firearm out of the window at the occupants of the address. The driver is described as male, in his 50’s with greyish coloured hair.

    The victim of the assault was treated at the LGH for minor injuries.

    Detectives from the Northern CIB later interviewed a 30 year old male from Newnham and as a result he was charged with assault, breach of bail conditions and drug related offences. He appeared in an after-hours court sitting where he was remanded in custody to re-appear at 2.15pm on Monday 18th January 2015 in the Launceston Magistrates Court.

    TAS Burglary and Stealing Charges 

    Wednesday, 15 October 2014 – 4:28 pm.

    Three people appeared in the Launceston Magistrates court this morning today in relation to a Burglary and Stealing incident that occurred yesterday at a complex on George Street, Launceston.

    The 34 year old woman from East Launceston, 24 year old woman from South Launceston and 23 year old man from West Launceston, were jointly charged in relation to numerous burglary and stealing matters from the complex.

    The trio were also charged with a significant stealing of property from a residential unit located nearby.

    ”It is suspected that this incident would have occurred over a number of hours. We would like to hear from anybody who saw anything suspicious in the area of George and York Streets, Launceston, between the hours of about midnight and 5:30 am yesterday morning,” said Detective Acting Inspector Ruth Orr of Launceston CIB.

    The two women were both bailed with the 24 year old man being remanded in custody. All three will appear in court at a later date.

    TAS Significant Recovery of Stolen Property 

    Tuesday, 14 October 2014 – 4:28 pm.

    At approximately 5:30 am this morning, uniform police were called to reports of a burglary at a business premises on George Street, Launceston, formally the Roman Baths complex.

    A 34 year old woman from East Launceston, a 24 year old woman from South Launceston and a 23 year old man from West Launceston, are all currently in custody and assisting police with enquiries.

    ”Police located a significant quantity of stolen property in the nearby area and at other locations around Launceston. The stolen property consisted of household items and tools to an approximated value of over $50,000,” said Detective Acting Inspector Ruth Orr.
